Firefox 1.0.5 is a security update that is part of our ongoing program to provide a safe Internet experience for our customers. We recommend that all users upgrade to this latest version.
Here's what's new in Firefox 1.0.5:
* Improvements to stability.
* Several security fixes.
At least it's better than IE, which didn't even get any updates for years until Firefox came out.

I wouldn't actually recommend anyone getting this yet if one of the main reasons you like Firefox is for the extensions. I have 1.0.5 and now I've got about two extensions working because no one has really released any updates for them yet.
I heard that some of the big changes like from 0.8 to 1.0 broke extensions but I never heard that the small 1.0.x changes broke extensions. All of my extensions work properly. Which extensions break for you?

I installed Firefox 1.0.5 and I haven't detected any problem. Everything including my extensions work fine.

Firefox will never be bug free... it may be better when 2.0 is released, and it is re-written from scratch lol.
After uninstalling 1.0.4, and installing 1.0.5.... it crashed almost immediately. But hasn't since the one time it did.
But this browser is terrible as far as compatability with what is on the net. IE does a much better job with that.
Animated images and webpages? Firefox needs some serious help in that department. Its funny seeing my CPU hit 99% when a little animated GIF is viewable. Even when another page is opened on top of it in the same window... the GIF is still working its magic on bogging my whole system down due to compatability issues in Firefox.
And IE will??? As for the compatability issue "Bill Gates" perhaps it's because 99% of the webpages out there were written when IE was the only browser going, now that there is an alternative that follows W3C standards NOT Microsoft standards some pages just won't view right. Just do what the rest of us do and use IE when you can't get it to view in Firefox right... just my 2 cents worth....
I think that your browser is ok (firefox) but your whole OS/PC config. maybe isnt. Maybe is something wrong with your firewall (filtering on some firewalls take too much resources), it isnt config. right.
Firefox is still my 1st. browser. Why? Because is light and
have all features that I need and ´cos writers of spyware/adware still dont writeing your dirty progs. for firefox.
Bad engleze I know.
That might just be your computer causing some of those things. Mine is just fine when displaying images and believe me, my computer isn't exactly "top-of-the-line."
And about it crashed when you installed it: please. Everyone goes on about how it crashes when it updates then is fine, but all it's really doing is just closing itself so it can update. Like any other program, it needs to restart itself when it updates so the new features or fixes or whatever can be implemented. I always figured that most of the people complaining were IE users not used to getting updates to their browser.
By the way, I hope you aren't an IE fan, because after you mentioned how FF has trouble with images, I laughed, because IE can't even display transparent PNG images yet. Are you aware of how much better PNG is at making images transparent than GIF? And most of the time, PNG saves a lot of filesize, so if everyone used PNG, images could display faster, but since the majority of Internet users use IE, we'll have to settle for slow image displaying.
(If you're not an IE fan, then I'm sorry about all that.. ;^)
my $.02:
I had thought this to be true as well. But I uninstalled all versions of Java that came w/WinXP and SP-2, then I did a fresh install of the Java from the Java.com website. Additionally I installed the freshest version of Flash from the Macromedia website. I've had no problems since up to Firefox 104. Version 105 has been crashing, I'm about to try updating my Roboform to the latest Firefox adapter and hoping that will help. Ta, ta...

No, my computer isn't causing any of the problems. It is a fresh build, with a fresh format of XP Pro SP2.
I could care less about PNG. You wont be seeing that anytime soon all over the net.
Its simply a trade off and a question.
Would you rather have a more secure browser with less compatability with everything on the net. Or would you rather have a slightly less secure browser with compatability for most of what is generally all over the net?
I think most would want IE. And most do. There is a reason for that you know?
Firefox is light, and I use it as my default for now. And I did restart Firefox before it crashed. Id it is 'supposed to crash', I would call that another bug. I don't think most people want to see an error on their screen :)
Firefox has a loooooong way to go yet. A very long way.

I agree...looong road to run before it even compare to Explorer. And to all fanatics of FireFox i can say new Explorer 8 gonna take its own place again, no:1.
Ar last Microsoft fixes bugs rapidly when occurs. It is a good browser, best protected what come to how many try is done to hack it. More user on Firefox and hackers gonna destroy it in zero time because lack of updates.
I have never hade any unusual problems with Explorer, rather hade problems when try firefox few time and i did not liked this toysoft at all.

I agree...looong road to run before Internet Explorer 8 gonna take its own place again. In about 5 or 6 years from now until that firefox is the king of browsers.
At last Microsoft fixes bugs rapidly but not fast enough , how many security issues occurs in his Internet bugs explorer.
